Science Sifting Tools For Innovation In Science And Technology

Science Sifting Tools For Innovation In Science And Technology

Science Sifting is designed primarily as a textbook for students interested in research and as a general reference book for existing career scientists. The aim of this book is to help budding scientists broaden their capacities to access and use information from diverse sources to the benefit of their research careers. The book describes why the capacity to access and integrate both linear and nonlinear information has been an important historic feature of pivotal scientific breakthroughs. Yet, it is a process that our students are rarely, if ever, taught in universities. This book goes beyond simply describing the features of great scientific breakthroughs. It discusses the basis for accessing and using nonlinear information in the linear research context. It also provides a series of tools and exercises that can be used to enhance access to nonlinear information for application to research and other endeavors.

Going Beyond Google Again Strategies for Using and

Going Beyond Google Again Strategies for Using and

The Invisible Web, also known as the Deep Web, is a huge repository of underutilized resources that can be richly rewarding to searchers who make the effort to find them. Since Jane Devine and Francine Egger-Sider explored the educational potentials of this realm in Going Beyond Google: The Invisible Web in Learning and Teaching, the information world has grown even more complex, with more participants, more content, more formats, and more means of access. Demonstrating why teaching the Invisible Web should be a requirement for information literacy education in the 21st century, here the authors expand on the teaching foundation provided in the first book and persuasively argue that the Invisible Web is still relevant not only to student research but also to everyday life. Intended for anyone who conducts research on the web, including students, teachers, information professionals, and general users, their book

Quantum Information Processing

Quantum Information Processing

Quantum processing and communication is emerging as a challenging technique at the beginning of the new millennium. This is an up-to-date insight into the current research of quantum superposition, entanglement, and the quantum measurement process - the key ingredients of quantum information processing. The authors further address quantum protocols and algorithms. Complementary to similar programmes in other countries and at the European level, the German Research Foundation (DFG) realized a focused research program on quantum information. The contributions - written by leading experts - bring together the latest results in quantum information as well as addressing all the relevant questions.

Online Privacy and Business Privacy in the Online World

Online Privacy and Business Privacy in the Online World

This series covers important and timely topics relating to online privacy concerns and provides information about how people can protect themselves from identity theft and scams (as well as other more general information, including some historical background about the Internet). There is lot of content here, with discussion about how online privacy issues pervade many aspects of our lives; an extensive index will assist with sifting through it all. An "Online Privacy Tips" feature at the end of each book is useful for condensing material. However, like "Cell Phones and Society" (Reference Point Pr.), the books contain huge blocks of dense text, an abundance of footnotes, and a dry narrative style; they also lack relevance for most kids and teens. Though these titles are possibilities for older readers doing in-depth research on online privacy, they aren't ideal for general purchase

System Parameter Identification Information Criteria

System Parameter Identification Information Criteria

Recently, criterion functions based on information theoretic measures (entropy, mutual information, information divergence) have attracted attention and become an emerging area of study in signal processing and system identification domain. This book presents a systematic framework for system identification and information processing, investigating system identification from an information theory point of view. The book is divided into six chapters, which cover the information needed to understand the theory and application of system parameter identification. The authors' research provides a base for the book, but it incorporates the results from the latest international research publications.
