Wild Enough and Free

Wild Enough and Free

I’ve gathered together my best short fiction, along with an introduction on fiction writing, and postscripts describing how each story came to be written, and put them together into a single volume. Named after the final short story, Wild Enough and Free is an eclectic collection that contains science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, and general weirdness.

Science Fiction A Very Short Introduction

Science Fiction A Very Short Introduction

Frankenstein, The Time Machine, Star Trek, Dune, 1984, Blade Runner science fiction has been explained as a combination of romance, science, and prophecy as a genre based on an imagined alternative to the reader's environment and as a form of fantastic fiction and historical literature. It has also been argued that science fiction narratives are the most engaged, socially relevant, and responsive to the modern technological environment. In this Very Short Introduction, David Seed doesn't offer a history of science fiction, but instead attempts to tie examples of science fiction to different historical moments, in order to demonstrate how science fiction has evolved over time, especially the emergence of science fiction as a popular genre in the 20th century. Seed looks not only at literature, but also at drama and poetry, as well as film. Examining recurrent themes in science fiction, he looks at voyages into space, the concept of the alien and alternative social identities, the role of technology in science fiction, and its relation to time in the past, present, and future.

Science Fact and Science Fiction An Encyclopedia

Science Fact and Science Fiction An Encyclopedia

This is not an encyclopedia of science fiction, and it's not an encyclopedia of science, either. Instead, it discusses the impact of fantastic literature on science and vice versa. Author Stableford is a science-fiction writer as well as a frequent contributor to works about the genre. In an introduction, he describes the encyclopedia as a way "to construct and maintain bridges between the cultures of science and fiction."0

From Where You Dream The Process of Writing Fiction

Robert Olen Butler, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction, teaches graduate fiction at Florida State University — his version of literary boot camp. The Rhetoric of Fiction

The Rhetoric of Fiction

The first edition of The Rhetoric of Fiction transformed the criticism of fiction and soon became a classic in the field. One of the most widely used texts in fiction courses, it is a standard reference point in advanced discussions of how fictional form works, how authors make novels accessible, and how readers recreate texts, and its concepts and terms—such as "the implied author," "the postulated reader," and "the unreliable narrator"—have become part of the standard critical lexicon.

Analyzing Digital Fiction

Analyzing Digital Fiction

Written for and read on a computer screen, digital fiction pursues its verbal, discursive and conceptual complexity through the digital medium. It is fiction whose structure, form and meaning are dictated by the digital context in which it is produced and requires analytical approaches that are sensitive to its status as a digital artifact. Analyzing Digital Fiction offers a collection of pioneering analyses based on replicable methodological frameworks. Chapters include analyses of hypertext fiction, Flash fiction, Twitter fiction and videogames with approaches taken from narratology, stylistics, semiotics and ludology. Essays propose ways in which digital environments can expand, challenge and test the limits of literary theories which have, until recently, predominantly been based on models and analyses of print texts. Extinction Point Extinction Point Book 1

Extinction Point Extinction Point Book 1

Extinction Point by Paul Jones was a good read, but expectations kind of got in the way for me. I love post-apocalyptic fiction and this novel definitely fits that bill, but I wasn't expecting science fiction. And science fiction is a better label for Extinction Point than post-apocalypse. Having said that, the science fiction elements were still interesting even if rather weird.

Transcendental Science Fiction and the Magic of Contrast

Transcendental Science Fiction and the Magic of Contrast

This is a 5,500 word article about 'Transcendental Science Fiction' in which I have explored how Buddhist Sutra and Speculative Fiction equally make use of contrast, layered contrast and paradox in a way which stimulates higher levels of perception. I also introduce Buddhist Insight and something I call Magic Realism. I conclude by exploring the potential of Transcendental Fiction as part of a new spiritual renaissance. These are all themes behind the writing of my interactive story - 'the prison'.
